McMahon Cogeneration Plant
The McMahon Cogeneration Plant is a 120 megawatt natural gas-fired plant located near Taylor in northeast British Columbia that provides power to the British Columbia electric grid, and steam to a gas processing plant owned by Spectra Energy. It is jointly owned by ATCO Power and Spectra Energy. The joint venture was developed in response to a competitive Request for Proposal by BC Hydro to supply the BC grid with additional megawatts of capacity from independent power sources. A long-term power sales agreement was also created with BC Hydro and the joint venture entered into two long-term natural gas supply contracts.
